It is available as dried raw form. Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. (syn. Callicarpa incana Roxb.) belonging to family Verbenaceae, commonly known as Priyangu in Sanskrit & Hindi is an important Ayurvedic herb useful in various ailments. In Ayurvedic system of medicine, the plant is also known as Phalawati. There are two varieties of the plant, described in Samhitas, as Priyangu and Gandha Priyangu. The second variety is a fragrant one. Priyangu consists of dried fruit of Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. (Fam.Verbenacem), a stout shrub, about 1.2 to 1.8 m high, occurring in the sub-Himalayan tracts from Hazara eastwards to Assam upto 1800 m. and in Upper Gangetic and West Bengal plains Priyangu Callicarpa macrophylla is a species of beautyberry native to the Indian subcontinent. Its fruits are small white berries that actually are drupes. The fruit is edible and can be eaten raw when it ripens.
